Belron UK, a company that trades under trusted brands Autoglass® and Laddaw® has been working closely with Willshee’s Waste & Recycling to enhance its waste management processes. By implementing innovative solutions it has reduced general waste, increased recycling and achieved significant cost savings, enhancing both environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.
Key Achievements:
- Maintaining a strong relationship and long-term retainer contract through high-level service abilities.
- Increasing recycling rates and financial rebates.
Belron UK’s National Distribution Centre in Bardon manages all glass and associated parts for the entire UK business, as well as serving the Republic of Ireland, daily. Thus, the company requires a structured, sustainable waste management solution to reduce landfill contributions and improve cost efficiency.
Before working with Willshee’s, Belron UK used multiple waste management providers without a cohesive strategy or targeted efforts to optimise processes, segregate materials efficiently and minimise costs.
Willshee’s was brought on as an expert waste management partner to introduce innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions. The initial goal was to simplify operations, reduce the volume of general waste, and increase recycling rates while maintaining compliance with environmental regulations. Belron UK required a tailored strategy to consolidate its waste management processes and establish best practices across their operations, ultimately improving efficiency and sustainability.
Having been successful in achieving the goals set out in the initial contract, Willshee’s went on to win two further consecutive tenders with Belron UK, demonstrating the company’s high level of service and ability to adapt to support customers as their business develops. In 2024, Willshee’s and Belron UK signed a long-term service agreement, illustrating the positive results of the partnership and the continued commitment to improving Belron UK’s waste management strategy.
Dave Cattell, Supply Chain Operations Manager, Belron UK, said:
“I have been really impressed with Willshee’s approach. The company’s expert insights and proactive team have helped us achieve significant improvements in waste management. Susan Purnell’s experience has also been invaluable in identifying new efficiencies and maximising recycling opportunities. It truly feels like a collaborative effort, and we are happy to have signed another long-term contract with the Willshee’s team.”
Since partnering with Belron UK, Willshee’s has introduced several key initiatives to transform its waste management strategy. By redesigning windscreen packaging, unnecessary materials such as metal and wood were eliminated, while maintaining product protection. This reduced the complexity of recycling and streamlined the process.
Willshee’s also supported Belron UK in enhancing its warehouse waste segregation, cutting the amount of general waste and significantly reducing disposal costs. Clear end-of-aisle bags and uniform shrink-wrap usage improved visibility and efficiency, ensuring waste was sorted correctly at the source.
These solutions reduced labour costs and increased the financial rebates received from high-quality recyclable materials. Employee engagement was crucial, with Willshee’s supporting Belron UK through training sessions, toolbox talks, and informational campaigns to ensure company-wide adoption of improved waste management practices.
Willshee’s was selected as Belron UK’s waste management partner due to its expertise in delivering tailored, sustainable waste management solutions, as well as the team’s hands-on approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
With a deep understanding of recycling processes and cost-saving strategies, Willshee’s provided long-term benefits for Belron UK. The partnership continues to thrive, improving waste reduction efforts and environmental sustainability.
